Tampa, Florida – August 5, 2010 – Derek Daniels, of McCumber Daniels’ Florida office, presented “MRSA and other HAIs” to attendees at the Florida Society for Healthcare Risk Management & Patient Safety (FSHRMPS) 30th Annual Meeting and Education Conference. Across the country, the number of lawsuits related to healthcare-associated infection is on the rise and verdicts are increasing in size. Recently, a Texas court awarded $17.5M for hospital-acquired MRSA and a North Carolina plaintiff settled a failure to diagnose suit for $4.5M. This presentation provided attendees with an overview of the current legal environment, an analysis of the “standard of care” in infection control, and resources to ensure their healthcare facilities’ policies and procedures will minimize exposure to liability.
